Community Resources for Covington and Baton Rouge
It’s always nice to know where you can go for help. The tragedy is that lots of people know how to access resources within their community that offer free or price-reduced services for those in need. Below is a compilation of some resources in the Covington and Baton Rouge communities.
Covington Resources
- Food Bank: The Covington Food Bank distributes food Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 AM to 12 PM and is located at 840 N. Columbia Street. To qualify for assistance from the food bank, an individual or family must live at or below the federal poverty guidelines. For more information, contact the food bank at 985-893-3003.
- Dental Clinic: Associated with the Covington Food Bank, the dental clinic provides comprehensive and affordable dental care to lower income individuals. The clinic has two paid dentists on staff as well as several volunteer dentists, which help to keep costs low for those who need services. Call 985-871-3939 for more information on how to apply to become a patient.

Baton Rouge Resources
The Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge (225-336-8700) has several outreach programs including financial assistance with bills and meeting with a counselor to help with your own personal finances. The Diocese also helps with employment services, especially for older workers and those who have disabilities. Check out the following webpage for other Baton Rouge assistance programs.
There are several food banks in the Baton Rouge community. This website has a listing of six food banks along with each organization’s contact information. Get in touch with a food bank ahead of time to make sure you qualify for help and know what information they require before providing assistance.
The following link lists a variety of resources based in the East Baton Rouge Parish. Organizations listed provide help with shelter, food, clothing, mentoring programs, job training, legal services, and more.
Needymeds.org offers a list of free and sliding scale health clinics for the entire state of Louisiana. Needymeds also lists the websites of these healthcare organizations, whether or not they offer services in multiple languages, and a brief description of fees associated with their services.
