Struggling with Learning?
Now is a good time to reflect on successes we have enjoyed and challenges we have overcome in the last year. We can be glad we made it through the holidays and look forward to new successes in the New Year.
Now is also a good time to reflect on our children’s successes and challenges. For a child, this is middle of the academic year when fall semester report cards are sent home. If a child is struggling because of behavioral or learning issues, medical options are available but can take months of expensive evaluation and may achieve results too late to help with this academic year.
A faster solution, and potentially more effective, is psychological testing for learning disabilities. Many psychological factors can cause a child to struggle in school. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a diagnosis we hear about often. Past treatments like medication can become less effective over time. Anxiety and depression can have an effect on learning behavior, as well as other social factors such as family problems or problems with peers in the classroom.
Psychological testing can pinpoint the relevant factors and treatment can begin in a matter of weeks, rather than months. The child will reap the benefits of testing almost immediately.
More information on the many testing options for children is available in the PTI Knowledge Library:
- Reasons to look into psychological testing

- Testing for ADHD and learning disabilities
The bottom line is that pursuing psychological testing can identify a variety of learning disabilities including difficulties with reading, math, writing, fine motor skills, language, hearing differences between sounds, and interpreting visual information, as well as other social factors that can affect learning behavior.
Let your New Year’s resolution be to help a child if he or she is struggling in school.
The correct diagnosis of a learning disability can make all the difference in the world to a child in need, and the sooner, the better.
